JAMES A. SMITH James A. Smith, Jr. retired recently from the CIA Clandestine Service as a senior operations officer, specializing in covert action, counter-insurgency and denied area ops. During most of his career in the Agency, Mr. Smith was posted overseas and has undertaken intelligence operations in a dozen Latin American and Asian countries. He received a number awards from foreign governments and the Agency. Before joining CIA, Mr. Smith was a reporter and editor for several New York and New England metropolitan dailies and adjunct professor of journalism at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. A Vietnam veteran, Mr. Smith was born in Brooklyn, N. Y. and holds Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in political science from UMass. |
